Poonch | Dec 3: As the electioneering picks up amidst chilling cold in this border constituency, the battle lines are getting clearer and deciding factors for the victory are being consolidated by the competing political parties.
Despite a severe cold wave prevailing in this area, there is a political heat which has put not only the town but even the rural areas in a festive mode. As leaders of different political parties are descending from Jammu, hotels are packed to capacity and there is hardly any space available in the government accommodation.
Jahangir Mir of the Congress, Ajaz Jaan of the National Conference and Yash Pal Sharma, a Congress rebel, are locked in a stiff triangular contest. "Never in the history of Poonch such a close and keen contest has been seen", said Mohinder Singh, a local contractor who supports Congress rebel Yash Pal.

| Army orders action in Siachen pilferage | | | | Early Times Reporter
Jammu | Dec 3: The Army today said it has initiated administrative action against three officers and three junior commissioned officers for alleged pilferage of special rations meant for soldiers serving in icy heights of Siachen Glaciers.
This follows up the information was given by Defence Minister A K Antony in Lok Sabha while replying to written questions.
Antony said Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out raids and recovered certain items of special rations from Chumathang, Tangtse, Hunder, Khalsar, Sasoma and Nubra of Ladakh district.
As many as 11 FIRs were lodged with the police leading to arrest of 31 civilians, he said.

Seven persons, who had gone missing from Shopian district for the last five days, have been rescued by a joint team of Army and police from a cave in the higher reaches of Pir Panjal in Rajouri district, officials said here on Monday.
The civilians, who were working as labourers in Kashmir valley, had set on foot from Shopian on November 29 to reach their native village in Kandi area of Rajouri, the officials said.
