Jammu to continue as base camp for Amarnath pilgrimage: Sinha

JAMMU, JUNE 13 (INFO)- Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S. K Sinha today announced that Jammu will continue to be the base camp for this year’s Amarnath pilgrimage with Baltal and Pahalgam as forward bases. Reviewing the yatra arrangements with divisional administration here this afternoon, the Governor said that collective efforts should be made for extending facilities to the pilgrims at the base and forward base camps. After conducting extensive tour of the forward base camps at Baltal and Pahalgam besides track clearance from the Holy cave to Baltal and Pahalgam to Chandanwari last week, the Governor today went round the newly identified site for the base camp at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. The camp is proposed to be developed on 40 kanals of land which is protected by bunds. The Tourism department has identified another 400 kanals of adjacent land which may require raising of bunds in view of the area being flood-prove. The Governor, who is also Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) said that the Board will erect some shelter-sheds and environment friendly prefabricated ...

Srinagar, June 13 Sardar Kalu Khan Hamdard, president Kissan Mazdoor Party today accused coalition for not fulfilling its promises and commitments made with people during election 2002, adding not a single man has been benefited out of the schemes launched for the farmer and Mazdoor community of the state. NEW DELHI, JUNE 13 Light to moderate rains cooled several parts of North India even as hot and humid conditions persisted in the national capital and some areas of Jammu and Kashmir with four more deaths, including that of a former legislator, reported in Madhya Pradesh today. The mercury level inched towards the 40 degree mark here with the maximum temperature settling at 39.8 degrees Celsius, a rise of 2.6 degrees since yesterday. The minimum was 28.5 but the maximum humidity level rose by eight per cent and settled at around 79 per cent, compared to yesterday's 71 per cent. Jammu: June 13 State Vigilance Organization today registered a case FIR No.38/2007 (P/S VOK) against Mohammad Yousuf Dar, retired Joint Managing Director, J&K State Road Transport Corporation after it was revealed that the said retired officer, while in service, had acquired various movable and immovable assets which appear to be disproportionate to his known sources of income.
