JK Bank to drive SRTC out of red

Srinagar, JUNE 08 - Government is contemplating to restructure the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) as a joint venture with Jammu and Kashmir Bank to bring the corporation out of red and make it a profitable and economically viable organization. This was stated by Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen while interacting with SRTC Employees Coordination Union members who called on him here today. The Minister said for working out the modalities of the proposed joint venture, a high power expert committee would be constituted. The Union members apprised the Minister about various problems being faced by SRTC workers which include release of salary, CP/GP Fund, pensionary benefits, release of COLA, promotion avenues and implementation of SRO-43. The Minister gave a patient hearing to the Union members and assured that government would put efforts to fulfill their genuine demands as early as possible. BERLIN, JUN 8 Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today met US President George W Bush on the sidelines of the G-8 Summit in Germany's sea-side resort of Heiligendamm near here. The two leaders had a brief meeting, officials said. It was not immediately clear what transpired in the meeting. The two leaders were expected to touch upon a proposed agreement to operationalise the civil nuclear deal, which has got stuck due to differences on reprocessing issue. Alleged Al-Qaeda CD surfaces in J&K

SRINAGAR, JUNE 8 A compact disc allegedly circulated by international terror outfit Al-Qaeda has surfaced in Jammu and Kashmir and the top police brass today said its veracity was being verified. The CD was given to a local news agency here along with a statement purportedly issued by so-called chief of the banned outfit in India Abu Abdul Rehman Al-Ansari. Director General of J-K Police Gopal Sharma said that his department has taken cognizance of the surfacing of the CD and was in the process of verifying its authenticity. Kathua (Jammu) June 8 Police today raided the house of a suspected drug peddler at Sawan Chak Kathua and recovered two Kilogram heroine worth two crore rupees in international market, besides Porno CD's arms and Bhuuki. The accused was arrested from a basement of the house being used by the accused as hideout, official sources said. Srinagar, May 21 An employee Jammu and Kashmir Judiciary among two persons landed up in police custody for their alleged links with banned Hizbul Mujahideen militants group. Official sources said that the suspects, allegedly working as over ground workers with HM, were arrested from Budgam area of central Kashmir.
