Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 9 : Army on Tuesday claimed to have killed five militants after foiling a major infiltration bid on Line of Control (LoC) in Keran Sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district while as a soldier was killed and two others were injured in another gunfight at Uri in Baramulla district today. Official sources told Global News Service that soldiers of 4 Kumavo regiment this morning foiled the bid in near Ustad Post in Keran sector. Sources said that soldiers spotted a group of heavily armed militants who were trying to sneak into this side. "Militants opened fire which was retaliated triggering an encounter which continued for some time," they said, adding that five intruders were killed. Soon after the exchange of fire, additional reinforcement was sent to area and searches are on, sources added. Srinagar based Defense Spokesman told GNS that a group of eight to nine militants were spotted by soldiers at Line of Control (LoC) near Ustad post in Keran Sector. Agencies Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam remains critical with over 350 villages under water. On Monday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spoke to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to take stock of the situation. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA)m, over one lakh people have been affected by the flood waters. Heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh has caused river Jiadhol to rise and inundate fresh areas in worst-hit Dhemaji district.
