SRINAGAR, Jul 3: Dissatisfied with the pace and progress of the Police investigation into the rape-cum-murder of two young women in Shopian, s Division Bench (DB) of Jammu & Kashmir High Court has ordered supervision of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) by Inspector General of Police CIG, Farooq Ahmed, and also asked the authorities to conduct a fresh forensic examination of the dead bodies, if necessary, with the permission of their family members. Shutdown in protest against the twin murder at the south Kashmir district headquarters has, meanwhile, completed 35 days.
After hearing arguments and counter-arguments from the petitioner High Court Bar Association (HCBA) and the respondent state government represented by Advocate General on Friday, a DB comprising Chief Justice of J&K High Court Mr Justice Barin Ghosh and Mr Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir today issued a set of directions in the matter of the investigation of rape-cum-murder of two young women, Neelofar and Asiya, at Shopian during the night intervening May 29 and 30.

Jammu, July 4: Taking refuge under the wide blanket of Article 370 of Constitution of India, as the Jammu and Kashmir Public Works Department apparently refused to take an order of Central Government, not even on the recommendations of state’s apex judicial authority, the High Court has issued notice to the Commissioner-Secretary of department for initiating appropriate proceedings.
Interestingly, the Additional Advocate General (the government advocate) told the Court that its previous direction was communicated to the government but the department did not take any action.

Jammu, July 4: After a day’s suspension following inclement weather in the Kashmir Himalayas the authorities have allowed the Amarnath pilgrims to proceed towards Kashmir on Sunday.
The Amarnath yatra was on Saturday suspended from here due to snowfall in some places along the Pahalgam route to the cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas. The Amarnath Shrine Board had advised local authorities that the pilgrimage should not be allowed from Jammu in view of the bad weather.
However, the yatra officer at Jammu told Early Times this evening that yatra has been allowed for tomorrow.
