| Heavy rains lash Jammu | | | |

JAMMU AUGUST 6:-(KIP) Heaving rains lashing Jammu since this morning forced the closure of 300 kilometer Jammu Srinagar National Highway, for about seven hours, as heavy shooting stones blocked the highway in Ramban. The closure of National Highway also halted the batch of Amaranth pilgrims at Ramban.
Heavy downpour of rains started from wee hours today giving some relief to Jammuites from humidity. Normal life come to stand still with roads blocked and drains chocked with water.
School, college going students and the employees were worst hit by these monsoon showers on the first day of the week. Students and employees of both private and government were seen carrying umbrellas and wearing rains coats.
"Though we got some relief from sweat and heat due to this rains, but this heavy downpour has increased my worries. The roads and streets are filled with water and one cannot move on scooter or auto. We have to wait with umbrellas for matadors and by that time all our clothes are wet", said Rahul, a class XII student.

Jammu, Aug 6: Reaching out the Gujjars with all his magnanimity, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that he favours political reservation for Scheduled Tribes if the community prevails upon all political parties for a consensus.
Azad said that while speaking at a function organised by the Gurjardesh Charitable Trust where hundreds of Gujjars cutting across the party lines raised demand for reservation to Gujjars in the legislature.

Jammu, Aug 6: The heavy rainfall which lashed the region since early this morning blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National highway stranding thousands of vehicles on either sides of the landslide prone areas.
