MPSC Haryana wins opening tie in Police Martyr's T20

KATHUA, Dec 20: The Maharana Pratap Sports Club (MPSC), Jamunanagar in Haryana outplayed NCC Jammu by six wickets to win the inaugural match of the 3rd Police Martyrs' Memorial North Zone Twenty20 Cricket Championship, organised by the jointly by District Police Kathua and Shaheed Welfare Committee at Sports Stadium, here today.
Batting first, after winning the toss, NCC Jammu set a target of 136 runs for the loss of nine wickets in given 20 overs, which, in reply, MPSC chased in 19 overs with six wickets in hand.
Puneet and Jatin were top scorers from NCC with 36 runs each while Inderjeet contributed 17 runs. From MPSC, Parveen, Sandeep and Manoj shared two wickets each.
Later, MPSC chased the total making 138 runs for the loss of four wickets in 19 overs. Amar played match winning innings of 62 (off 56 balls,) runs, followed by Ashok, who made 24-ball 33 runs. From NCC Jammu, Inderjeet, Mayank, Nitin and Bansi shared one wicket each.
For his match winning knock of 62 runs, Amar was declared man of the match. The special cash prize of Rs 1100 was presented to Amar by Surinder Singh Andotra of Mahindra First Choice.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by Inspector General of Police, Jammu, Dilbag Singh in a well attended function. The chief guest stressed on the need for better Police-Public relations and congratulated the Shaheed Welfare Committee and District Police Kathua for the initiatives which that served the dual purpose of better relations with general masses and honor to Martyrs' families.
Deputy Inspector General of Jammu-Kathua Range, JP Singh and District Development Commissioner, Zahida Parveen Khan were among others present in the opening function.
District Police chief, SSP, Atul Kumar Goel welcomed the distinguished gathering and dwelt at length regarding the objectives of the championship.
The inaugural ceremony included a colourful cultural programme by young students of DAV School Lacchipur. Families of the Martyrs' were among others present in the opening function.
