| Militants who got Govt employment | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Dec 20: After the news about current year's topper in Higher Judicial examination came to fore, many appointments made since 1996 have also come under scanner. Like the current year's topper in judicial examination, Government servants with past militant links want to be treated at par with the candidates who got the CID verification. It was reliably learnt that a KAS officer of 1996 batch was a Hizbul Mujahideen militant. Reports suggest that he was an expert in manufacturing improvised explosive devices. He even lost one of his hands in a blast. He is currently posted in North Kashmir where militants are trying their best to revive militancy. Another officer of the 1999 batch also owed allegiance to Hizbul Mujahideen. Similarly a civil engineer was jailed for abducting people for ransom. Yet another officer having militant links was facing charges of abducting a close relative of former Chief Minister and Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad. The concerned officials are mum. According to them, the tainted persons joined the Government services before the secret police could submit verification reports. Pertinent to mention, the State Intelligence sleuths have prepared a database also known as Red Book. This book contains names of more than eighty thousand persons who stand blacklisted for their links to the militants. The persons in the book have been denied passports and Government jobs. Some of them who managed to get appointed some how had to give upo the job for want of verification. Last year the Union Home Ministry in a communication directed the State Government to consider persons in the Red Book for passports. However, the State Government chose to ignore the communication. |
