| Legal Metrology fines Rs 10,000 to chocolate manufacturer for not writing Packing Date | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 20: The department of Legal Metrology booked a manufacturer of chocolate from Mumbai under the provisions of Weights and Measures Laws and Package commodities rules, who flooded the market with varieties of costly chocolates without mentioning the one of mandatory declarations i.e packing date on the pre-packed commodity of the said chocolate. More than 100 packages were seized from the market during inspections. According to Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology Enforcement, the Packaged Commodity rules protects the consumers by providing mandatory declarations. In the said case also, the chocolates were packed with the statutory declaration to consume the said chocolates within 3 months from the date of packing but the date was not marked thereby giving opportunity to the trader to sell the same at any time period. The department scrutinized the bills and found that there was more than 100 % margins to the trader as per marked MRP and price billed to the trader, accordingly Inspector Jammu (upper) Ms Pooja Kumari directed M/s Jindal, Mumbai based manufacturer to reduce the margin of profit in the interest of consumers and all the packages were recalled from market besides imposing a sum of Rs 10,000/- and was recovered as a composition from the defaulter. |
