early times report
Jammu, Dec 20: Taking serious note of poor performance shown by the government schools which registered zero per cent results in the matriculation examination, CPI (M) State Secretary M Y Tarigami has asked the government to come out with a concrete plan to streamline the functioning of these schools and take stern action against the school staff responsible for the dismal performance.
While referring to media reports, Tarigami said that majority of children in the state study in government schools and the dismal performance of these educational institutions has a telling impact on the society in general and students in particular. "The government needs to come out a comprehensive plan to overhaul the functioning of the government run schools as these institutions are not only responsible for career building of students but they shape the future of the society," he said.
Tarigami remarked that government must constitute a high level committee comprising of educational experts and administrators to find out loopholes in these educational institutions and act firmly on the recommendations of the committee without any delay. "A two pronged strategy is needed to make these institutions effective. One provide a good infrastructure and staff and second make all these institutions accountable," Tarigami observed. He regretted the way centrally sponsored schemes including SSA and RAMSA for creating infrastructure and manpower in schools has been mistreated. "These schemes, if implemented well, would have fetched good results. But unfortunately in most of the places, these schemes have been used to fill up coffers of teachers turned contractors and the school administrators and the essence with which these schemes were drafted are yet to percolate down to the grassroots level," Tarigami said.
