| Seminar on topic "Secularism is need of the Hour' held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 9 : National Secular Forum in collaboration with New Modern College organized a seminar on topic "Secularism is Need of the Hour" Prof MP Singh Isher, Vice Chancellor Jammu University was the chief guest. Among others prominent present on the occasion included Prof Neelu Rohmetra Rector Kathua Campus as guest of honour while Jai Kumar OSD to Vice Chancellor Jammu University as special guest of the occasion. Speaking on the occasion the chief guest Prof MP Singh Isher, Vice Chancellor Jammu University elaborated the subject briefly and provided an insight regarding the significance of secularism. He added that before becoming a secular, one must have the qualities of being a good human being. He enlightened his views over secularism as one can be secular by respecting his own religion and even giving equal respect to other religions. Every religion gives us noble ideas that bring us to the path of righteousness and humanity. He stressed upon the rationale of secularism in the present era in order to overcome from the menace which is evidenced on day to day basis in the society. The seminar proceedings started with a welcome address by the Principal of the College Prof Siraj-ud-Din Bhat. It was followed by the proceedings of the seminar Dr Vikas Sharma State President NSF expressed his views on the occasion regarding the role of NSF in maintain peace and harmony in the present state of affairs. He also said that 'Secularism' seems to be highly pertinent at this moment given the fact that our country is now witnessing fissiparous tendencies apparently based on religion. Thereafter Tarun Bahl, Chairman New Modern College and Kamal Deep Singh Scholar Punjabi Deptt also spoke on the subject the topic and laid down the emphasis on the need of understanding the concept of secularism. In the end Surjit Choudhary Vice-President of National Secular Forum presented vote of thanks. |
