| All set for 'mega rally' today, Govt statements provocative, say leaders | | Employees' 5th phase agitation to be decisive: JCC | | ET Report JAMMU, Jan 9: Upbeat over overwhelming response and what is being claimed as 100 % success on day two programme of employees' strike, JCC is all set for a mega rally organized at both Jammu and Srinagar before the 5th phase that was scheduled for three days concludes tomorrow. JCC under whose banner over 4 lakh employees across the State struck work today indicated that this phase has to be decisive and no further time would be given to Government to settle their demands. Lamenting the Government's indifference and attitude, JCC leaders said the statements coming from various quarters of Government are provocative and warned these would add to their 'problems'. "It is regrettable that instead of fulfilling the agreement reached last year, the Government is backtracking from its commitments….it is like playing a double game and hoodwinking lakhs of employees….," said Abdul Qayoom Wani, one of the leaders steering strike in Jammu. Even more pathetic is their response to this phase of strike with provocative statements in the media which will only create problems to them, Wani said while speaking to ET , indicating the JCC has decided to go ahead with indefinite strike, instead of continuing it for brief durations after regular intervals. Employees in all the regions of the State today participated in gate demonstration programmes which were scheduled during this phase under which thousands of demonstrators lodged strong protest against Government in front of the offices. "It was a complete, 100% success in terms of huge participation of employees in all the three regions….this speaks of disillusionment and disappointment of employees towards the Government which made false promises with them in the agreement reached last year in July", said Wani while explaining the mood of the employees in current phase of agitation. JCC leaders after gate demonstration programme held meeting in the evening today to have preliminary round of discussion on future strategy to be adopted in view of what they describe as 'deaf and dumb' attitude of the Government towards the agitation programmes. "We have received a feedback from the grass root level from our district and provincial level presidents that employees want a decisive battle this time and they are not in favour of giving more time to Government", said Wani. A final decision would, however, be taken in the crucial meeting to be held tomorrow after rallies conclude in both the capital cities. In Jammu the rally would start from Udhyog Bhawan and conclude in front of Divisional Commissioner's office. The employees have been demanding enhancement of retirement age to 60 years, a policy on regularization of daily wagers and removal of pay anomalies caused on account of Sixth Pay Commission. They have also been pressing for budgetary allocation for Public Sector units, as already agreed to by the Government in the agreement reached last year. The Government had committed that retirement age would be increased from present 58 to 60 by September last year, a strong yearning of employees which remains elusive. |
