Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 9: MLA Ramnagar, Harsh Dev Singh's wife has made clear that her family had been paying tax regularly and had nothing to hide. "I am a regular tax payer for the last 11-12 years having her own sources of income". She said.
The MLA's wife said she owned two buses in Partnership which were sold in 2006 and after paying off the bank loan she got some savings which were invested in purchase of 8 kanals of land in parts.
The said land, she said, has been categorized in the revenue records as un-irrigated agricultural land. She said that the said piece of land is duly accounted for in the IT returns and stamp duty duly paid as prevailed at the time of purchase.
"There is no other movable or immovable property owned by the family except a joint family ancestral house", she said adding she was also a private sector employee having her own monthly income which is duly accounted for in the income tax returns. "We are regularly paying income tax and each and every detail is reflected in the annual returns filed by them. There is absolutely nothing with them which has not been reflected in IT returns", she said.
She said her husband had maintained high standards of probity and morality in public life, was conferred with best legislator award and had won three consecutive elections in a row which was not digested by vested political interests. She said that she did not want to react but was constraint to do so.
Manju said it was highly slanderous and derogatory to publish such unsubstantiated reports without verifying and substantiating the facts. Admitting she suffered mental agony and harassment due to highly defamatory vilification campaign, she regretted her family was dragged into controversy.
She was reacting to reports saying the family had amassed wealth disproportionate to known sources of income.
