| Troops put on high alert after Mendhar incident | | | Jammu, Jan 9 : The Indian troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir have been put on high alert with instructions to retaliate if the Pakistani troops violate ceasefire by opening fire on the Indian pickets and border outposts. Official sources said that the troops have been told to strengthen patrolling mechanism so that Pakistan forces were not able to repeat the Mendhar incident in which two Indian troopers were killed by Pakistani soldiers who had intruded into the Indian territory. Sources said that the Pakistani soldiers took advantage of dense fog while infiltrating into the Indian territory at when Indian troopers were patrolling the border. They said that the Indian border guards have been told to carry out patrolling in large groups so that there was no room for Pakistani soldiers to intrude into the Indian territory for attacks.Top Army functionaries again rubbished Pakistani claims that the Mendhar incident had been provoked by the Indian troops. They said that Pakistan forces were fabricating one lie after another and in support of their contention they cited the Uri incident and said that the Indian troops had not fired the first shot. They said the Pakistan soldiers had opened fire on "our pickets" and when "we retaliated their one soldiers was reportedly killed." They said the Pakistan troops were as much responsible for the Uri incident as much they were for the Mendhar incident. They stated that instructions have gone to the field commanders that border management should be further upgraded so that each and every bid by Pakistan troops to provide fire cover to the militants, wishing to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir is foiled. |
