| Four acquitted in abetment to suicide case | | | Jammu, Jan 9 (JNF): Principal Sessions Judge Kathua MK Hanjura has acquitted Lyaqat Ali, Mareema Begum, Hajra Begum and Siraj Din all residents of chandal Tehsil Bani District Kathua who were facing trial for allegedly abetting to commit suicide. According to the police case, on April 14, 2007 Maqsooda Begum w/o Mohd Hanief r/o Chandral, Bani sprinkled kerosene oil on her body and set herself on fire. She sustained burn injuries and was admitted to Sub District Hospital Bani from where she was referred to GMC Jammu. On May 5, 2007, she breathed her last in the GMC Jammu. It is stated that the habit of picking-up unnecessary quarrels with her prior to the occurrence. On April 12, 2007 also it is said that they thrashed her over a dispute. Police registered a case and after completion of investigation presented challan in the court of law. Principal Sessions Judge Kathua MK Hanjura after hearing Adv Ravi Kumar Gupta for the state whereas Adv Dewan Singh appearing for the accused persons observed that the prosecution has failed to connect the accused with the commission of crime. The nexus between the death of deceased and the alleged acts of the accused is not such as would drive a reasonable person to commit suicide. Such fights occur everywhere. The deceased had no reason to put an end to her life on a trifling issues and acquitted all the accused from the charges leveled against them as prosecution has failed. |
