| Humiliated by college authorities, student tries self immolation | | |

SRinagar, Jan 9: In a bizarre incident, a student in Srinagar tried to self immolate herself after she was allegedly humiliated by college staff in a function. A student of regular MEd Class session 2012 of Government College of Education Srinagar, (name withheld) allegedly was not called on the stage to receive the award even though she was invited to receive the first prize for her model 'Means of transport'. "I was told that i had got the first prize, but at the last moment, the name of a blue eyed, undeserving student was announced" said the aggrieved student. According to her parents, only after the anger brewed among the students of college who were shocked at the last minute change of name, college authorities made a certificate of 'Best project of the event' and handed it over to her behind the curtains. Anguished over the indifference attitude of the college authorities, the aggrieved then attempted self immolation.
Principal Government college of education Srinagrar, Dr Paveen Pandit however narrated a different story. When contacted, he said, "actually two students were deserving first position and we invited this candidate also to come on the stage but she did not turn up on the stage to receive her award." |
