| Day 2: Work remains paralysed in Govt offices as employees continue strike | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 9: The usual work in majority of government offices continued to be remained paralysed on the second consecutive day across the state due to the ongoing three day strike called by the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) and Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) amalgams of various employees' organizations in support of employees' demands. Jammu and Kashmir Government employees are on three-day strike in the state under the banner of Joint Consultant Committee (JCC) and Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) from Jan 8. The routine work in many Government Departments and Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) offices was affected as the employees strike entered second day amid demonstrations and protests. The strike call has been called by Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC) in support of its demand vis-à-vis the implementation of agreement between government and JCC leaders made in September 2010. Meanwhile, vowing to go for indefinite strike if the government did not concede their demands, senior JCC leaders appealed to the state government employees to hold gate demonstrations in their respective office complexes. They also appealed them to participate in massive rally on the final day of ongoing stir to be organized on January 10 at Udyog Bhawan Jammu and Srinagar. The employees' demands included enhancing the retirement age from 58 years to 60 years, release of all pending arrears and regularisation of daily wagers. EJCC alleged that the state government was not implementing the agreement which it signed with the government employees on this account last year. Demanding the implementation of the agreement , the employees pledged that they would continue their agitation till their genuine demands were not conceded by the government. JCC spokesperson Abdul Gafur Dar stated the government had back-tracked from the agreement made with the employees. He informed that they would intensify their agitation if the government did not concede to the genuine demands of the employees. Hundreds of employees under the banner of JCC assembled in front of Divisional Commissioner office and their respective offices to highlight their demands. Describing the strike as "successful", JCC leader Mohammad Gafoor Dar said it was "challenge" to the government to act on employees' demands. He also asked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Finance Minister A R Rather to intervene in the matter. While addressing the gathering, the leaders condemned the dilly-dallying policy of the government, which, they alleged, "miserably failed to implement the agreement till date." They also stressed upon the state government not to delay the implementation of agreement as it would compel JCC to intensify its agitation to get its demands fulfilled. "Government cannot make promises to break them. We will launch indefinite agitation across the state if the government did not implement its promises made to the employees," they added. Meanwhile the ongoing "Kaam Chorh Hartal" strike called for by the JCC affected normal work in all ITI's / Dy. Directorates/ Directorate of Technical Education Deptt and also in Polytechnic sector. At ITI canal road Jammu the employees held strong demonstration followed by day long protest cum dharna. JCC leader & State president of J&K ITI, EUF Nazir Ahmed Molvi, led the protest and alleged that govt has for turned deaf ear towards the pending demands of the employees. He said Govt high powered committee led by Devinder Singh Rana, Political advisor to Chief Minister signed agreement with the JCC leaders but the agreement was not honoured despite time frame given to the employees leadership. Yet in another protest All Jammu & Kashmir School Education Employees Co-ordination Committee, Jammu held a protest demonstration in the premises of Directorate of School Education, Muthi in support of the strike call given by JCC. Various leaders namely Bharat Bhushan Kotwal, Ganesh Khajuria, Vishal Trikha, Nusrat Ahmed Beg, Ravinder Singh, Danesh Gupta, Surinder Singh, Ram Pal, Madhu Bala and others spoke on the occasion and demanded immediate removal of pay anamolies and enhancement of retirement age. |
