JAMMU, Jan 10: Government SPMR College of Commerce today registered a fine five-wicket win over Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor to enter into the next round of pre-quarterfinals of the ongoing annual inter-college Twenty20 cricket tournament, organised by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, here. Batting first, after winning the toss, GDC Akhnoor set a target of 133 runs for the loss of eight wickets, which, in reply, Commerce College chased in 19.2 overs losing five wickets. Surinder Singh was top scorer from Akhnoor with 33-ball 41 runs, including four boundaries and a six. Vishal Buvra and Pankaj Kumar added 23 and 14 runs respectively. From Commerce College, Summay Jain emerged as most successful bowler with four wickets while Vikral Thomat took two and Ravi Kumar bagged one. Later, Commerce College reached the required total in 19.2 overs with five wickets in hand. Amit Rathi (32 off 21 balls, 5x4, 1x6) and Summay Jain (26 off 19 balls, 3x4) were main scorers while Suban Gupta added valuable 22 runs. Sunny Kumar took two wickets while Vishal Buvra and Surinder Singh shared apiece each from GDC Akhnoor. Today's match was officiated by Suresh Singh and Vijay Dogra as umpires while Manu Khajuria was scorer. Meanwhile, in another scheduled match of the day, GDC Poonch got walkover R K College. NEXT MATCH: The GCET shall take on GDC Mendhar in quarterfinals while SPMR College of Commerce shall be playing against GDC Poonch in pre-quarterfinal match tomorrow.
