| India unhappy with Pakistan's demand to internationalize K-issue | | | early times report Jammu, Feb 7: New Delhi is quite unhappy with attempts being made by Pakistan to internationalize Kashmir issue, sources said. After having rejected Islamabad's demand for securing a probe by the UNMOG officials in the recent LOC conflict in which the two sides lost five soldiers Pakistan has once again decided to raise the Kashmir issue at the international fora and accordingly it has made plea to the OIC to hold a probe in the recent ceasefire violations which led to exchange of fire. Seeking to internationalize tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), Pakistan has called for an investigation into the recent incidents there, by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). "We would also welcome an OIC fact-finding mission to investigate the recent incidents of ceasefire violations along the LoC," Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said while addressing a meeting of the OIC contact group on Kashmir in Cairo. She reiterated that Pakistan is ready to work with the United Nations Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to carry out an independent inquiry into the ceasefire violations. Earlier, Pakistan's attempt to rope in the UN by demanding a probe by UNMOGIP was foiled by India, which rejected it saying the matter can be settled bilaterally. And again New Delhi has once again turned down Pakistan's demand for securing a probe either by the UNMOG or the OIC on the plea that such matters could be resolved through bilateral dialogue. Sources said senior government functionaries in Delhi have conveyed to Pakistan that India had stopped giving any recognition to the role and relevance of the UNMOG after the two sides signed the Simla agreement which provided for settling all bilateral problems through peaceful negotiations and parleys. |
