| Jammu farmers flagged off to attend festival in Rajasthan | | | Jammu, Feb 7: To provide exposure to farmers about best agricultural practices outside the state, with a focus on organic farming, a group of 30 farmers representing different districts of Jammu division along with 10 officers of the Department of Agriculture, were flagged off by Director Agriculture Jammu Ajay Khajuria, to attend 18th Shekhawati Organic Festival at Nawa-lgarh (Rajasthan). The festival would be held from February 8 to 10. Khajuria while interacting with the farmers disclosed that the participatory tour was aimed at popularization and implementation the organic farming amongst the farmers by acquainting them with latest knowledge and developments in this field as organic farming has great relevance for sustainability of agriculture by reducing the input cost of the farmers for production of crops making the farming easier. He disclosed that an area of 3000 hectares is being covered for implementation of adoption and certification of organic farming through service providers by the Department under different centrally sponsored schemes . He added that the registration of farmers for certification of organic produce and supply of organic inputs is in progress in the areas which are being covered under organic farming. |
