| SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013: Ustad Danish enthralls audience | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 11: The SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013 saw enthralling sarod recitals by Ustad Danish Aslam Khan on Monday. Performing at different venues like the Namdhari Gurudwara, R S Pora border and Army School Ratnuchak (AS-R), Danish mesmerized the audiences with his concerts. All the concerts witnessed a huge gathering of students and music lovers. The 8th Annual SaMaPa Aalap Festival is being presented by SaMaPa in collaboration with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, J&K Police and Department of Tourism, Jammu. The concert at AS-R was attended by officers of Armd Bde, SaMaPa coordinators, Jagdeep Kaur and Prof Parveen Sabharwal, musicians Charan Singh and Ragini Rainu along with Santoor maestro and music composer Abhay Rustum Sopori. Sopori in his address highlighted the need to provide music as a daily listening practice. He said he wishes to see each child grow into a sensitive, strong and matured adult who will carry forward the rich traditional culture forward. The students looked very inspired and confident of being part of this musical movement. Ustad Danish, a well known sarod maestro, presented Raga Khamaj. On the special request of the audience, he concluded his recital with compositions in Raga Des. He represents the eighth generation of musicians in his family belonging to the Ajrara Gharana. Having performed all over the world, he thanked SaMaPa for giving him the opportunity to visit and perform in the City of Temples. He made the students sing with him various structures and compositions which created a beautiful bridge between the musicians and the students. He was ably accompanied by Vishal Singh from Jammu. Earlier, Smt. Sonal Sharma, Principal ASR, welcomed the guests with bouquets & mementos. The school thanked SaMaPa for yet another mesmerizing session of the festival. The festival will feature Santoor recital by Abhay Rustum Sopori at G.D. Goenka School at 10am on Tuesday. |
