| Rivals gaining edge; Azad losing political grip in J&K..? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 11: With Election Commission today finally issued formal notification for the election to eight seats of Legislative Council, which will be held on March 7, hectic lobbying has been initiated by the prospective aspirants in Congress party. However, an amazing political development has come to light in past couple of days in Congress circle. "The diehard supporters of party stalwart and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad are slowly approaching his rival camp i.e. Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Saif-Ud-Din Soz to muster support in their favour," revealed insiders in Congress that further expressed "the said veiled political development is great significance which indicates Azad is losing its sheen in political battle-field of Jammu and Kashmir." If sources in Congress are to believed, number of spirants of MLC seat are trying to seek support of Saif-Ud-Din Soz camp as they (aspirants) are doubtful of Ghulam Nabi Azad's role while finalizing the list of party nominees for elections to Legislative Council. Few days back, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand along with former Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Manmohan Singh Chowdhary had visited New Delhi and has met number of senior party leaders including party's incharge J&K Affair, Mohan Prakash, who is believed to be quiet close with Soz camp instead of Ghulam Nabi Azad. Though the Congress described the visit as a routine affair but sources in the party indicated that "the meeting of leaders of Azad camp with Mohan Prakash is not an ordinary development and there are rumours in the party that Soz camp will play a vital role in deciding the party mandate. "There are chances that Ghulam Nabi Azad will finalize just one name that too for seat reserved for erstwhile Doda district as the said district is home district of Azad. However, for other seats that would be contested jointly by NC-Congress coalition, it would Saif-ud-Din Soz lobby, which will have a pivotal role to play," shared political observers further recalling, "even during the Cabinet re-shuffle, which was held on January 15, Soz group emerged as strongest against Azad who could not adjust his loyalist legislators." Sources in Congress further disclosed that "several Congress leaders including former Legislators, Ministers and ex-Corporators that are known for their allegiance with Ghulam Nabi Azad in Jammu and Kashmir are attempting to seek time from Soz as well as Mohan Prakash behind the curtains to secure berth in Legislative Council. Out of eight seats, election for the four seats will be held in Kashmir Province, remaining four seats will be contested in Jammu region with one seat reserved for Doda district. Coalition Government is hopeful for winning seven out of eight seats while giving PDP just one seat. |
