Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Feb 11: In his interview with New Delhi based English TV Channel, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tried to clam-down the growing anger among the people of Kashmir which is presently on high note in view of hanging of parliament attack convict
Mohammad Afzal Guru. Omar in his interview with the TV channel put onus on the central government by asking the question to UPA government to prove his point before the people of Jammu and Kashmir that the hanging of Guru is not a politically motivated. Omar in this interview also tried to distance himself from the hanging of Guru by conveying a massage to the people that he and his government was not the part in decision making in terms of hanging of Guru, the claim rejected by the state main opposition party PDP.
"I had a sense that Afzal Guru would be executed sooner rather than later. Generations of Kashmiris will identify with Afzal Guru. You will have to prove to the world that the death penalty is not used selectively. The onus rests on the judiciary and the political leadership to show that this wasn't a selective execution." Added Omar. Even though Omar Abdullah agreed that he was aware that Guru will be hanged sooner or later, but he turns the blind eye towards the issue and did not explain about the role of his government in sabotaging the resolution of independent MLA Er. Abdul Rashid in JK
Assembly last year seeking clemency of Guru.
While defending himself, he accuses social media and the Internet of "fanning the flames with irresponsible statements" after Afzal Guru's hanging. Omar though in his interview tries to clear the air on Guru hanging by distancing himself from the controversy; could not explain the reason that why Congress party chose to handover him the reign of state Chief Ministership for full six year term.
The Chief Minister who is now feeling heat from all quarters in Jammu and Kashmir looked tense in this interview but at the same time tried his best to give the message to the people of Jammu and Kashmir that he had no role in Guru hanging. Under the prevailing circumstances in valley, a million dollar question arises--- will Omar Abdullah manage to escape the political heat, beside what will be the fate of his government after openly blamed UPA government over the hanging of parliament attack convict Guru.
