| Nomadic habitation reason for damage to forests: Kandi belt villagers | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Feb 11: To protect the forest and forest life, villagers of Kandi belt have urged the state government to frame a concrete and constructive policy for the protection of forest cover. The villagers under the leadership of former Sarpanch Parshotam Singh said that the nomadic habitation has become the biggest reason to damage the forest cover and put the forest life endangered. "This is being encouraged by the wrong motive of state government to fix the vote bank of nomads," Singh said and blamed that the Forest Protection Force has no capacity to protect the forest and the officers of the department never seen to coordinate with the locals who resides near the forests. "The wood smugglers are openly violating the forest norms and engaged actively in illegal cutting of the forest wood also and other side the nomads who are settled in the forest area along with their cattle for grazing purpose also not aware about the norms of forest protection and they caused heavy loss to the forest cover and forest life also. The state government and local administration both have been proved as handicapped and helpless to take stern action against those who make disturbance in forest balance in the area," he alleged. |
