| Accountability Commission can’t handle all problems in J&K: Madhav Lal | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 25: Claiming that there are governance problems in Jammu and Kashmir, former Chief Secretary Madhav Lal today said that Accountability Commission can't handle numerous cases pertaining to corruption all alone. "Jammu and Kashmir is not an exception. Here too is governance problem. Thought there is no dearth of competent officers but dozens of officers indulging in corruption block the smooth functioning of administration," Madhav Lal told and added that State Government must encourage reputed officers of known integrity. He said bureaucrats must always make an effort to understand the problems of people. "Some officers are honest while others are dishonest. State of Jammu and Kashmir doesn't lack talent and there are countless good and honest bureaucrats who are eager to address the problems of people, however the bad lot spoils everything," Madhav Lal said and maintained that accountability should be there for the smooth functioning of the administration. Former Chief Secretary said that proper accountability makes administration robust and clean. "Accountability should be there but in Jammu and Kashmir, Accountability Commission can't handle all the cases all alone due to lack of manpower and authority. There is a need to gear up this Commission so that corrupt and dishonest officials could be taken to task," he said and added that capacity building is an important issue and Government must appoint the right person for the right job. |
