Jammu, Feb 25: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday staged a protest demonstration against state government for its alleged failure to provide security to Panches and Sarpa-nhces. Dozens of BJP activists assembled at Gangyal Chowk and shouted slogans against state government. They also burnt the effigy of state government. Addressing the protesters, convener of BJP Panchayat cell Baldev Singh Bloria expressed serious concern over the death of Panches and Sparnches. He said that the around one dozen sarpanchs have been killed by the militants. He also said that around 1600 panches and Sarpanches have been resigned due to threats from militants. "The recent killing of sarpanch at Baramulla is one more incident which shows that government is not serious for providing security to Panchs and sarpanchs" he said. Baloria demanded serious and concrete measures for the security of elected Panchyat representatives besides giving financial and judicial powers to panchayats. He also demanded implementation of 73rd amendment in Jammu and Kashmir as earlier as possible. Other participated in protest included Vijay Kumar, OP Magotra, Balwan Singh, Sanjay Koul, Jyoti Parkash, Manohar Lal, L N Bhat, Ashok Kumar, Kaka Ram, Ranjeet Singh, Sat Pal beside others. |
