| Fifth sarpanch killed in J&K; has Omar Govt failed? | | | Early Times Report
NewDelhi/Bara-mulla, Feb 25: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah drew flak from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) over the killing of sarpanch in Kalantra village in Baramulla district by suspected militants Sunday evening. Reportedly, the sarpanch - Javid Aahmad Wani, affiliated to the National Conference, was fired at by gunmen outside his home on Sunday evening. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. PDP leader Naeem Akhtar said that people must be given more security. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also condemned the killing of the sarpanch in the Valley, and asked the Omar Abdullah government to initiate tough action against those responsible for such untoward incidents. BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said this is very serious issue because this is an attack on the idea of democracy. Javadekar also said that the party would raise this issue in Parliament. Balbir Punj of BJP has said that terrorists are having a free run in Jammu and Kashmir and Omar Abdullah has failed in providing security to sarpa-nches. The sarpanch was gunned down by suspected militants; however no militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for his killing. This is the fifth killing of a sarpanch in the Kashmir Valley in the last six months. |
