| Biodiversity week culminates at MIER | | | ET Plus Report Jammu, Mar 6 : The celebration of the Biodiversity week organized under the under Project NEAC i.e. National Environment Awareness Campaign (2012-13) culminated today at Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER). More than 200 students of the two units of MIER, namely Model Academy the Prestigious School and MIER College of Education took part in different activities as laid under the said programme. Firstly, Model Academy organised a Lecture on Bio Diversity for the benefit of its students. The lecture was delivered by Dr. P.L. Koul, an expert environmentalist .The lecture was organized as a part of on going national environmental awareness campaign. Dr. Koul in his address to the students stressed upon the need of Biodiversity and deliberated upon ways and means to maintain the ecological balance. An interesting interactive session was also held on the occasion. Later in the week an awareness rally on biodiversity conservation was flagged of from the MIER campus. The rally was flagged off by Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER. Others present on the occasion were Dr. Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER, Rupa Gupta, Principal Model Academy, Annie Koul HoD B.Ed., Poonam Gupta and Monika Bajaj, Incharge Eco club of the school and college, andP.K. Kaul, OSD. Two groups of students i.e. from Model Academy and MIER College of Education went to different parts of the city at K.C chowk , Indira chowk and Bakshi Nagar holding banners and posters highlighting and spreading awareness regarding biodiversity amongst the general public. The aim of this campaign was to create a society of motivated citizens committed to conservation, preservation and protection of the Biodiversity and Environment. Dr. Renu Gupta, Director, MIER motivated the students and said that sustainable development can only take place when we take care of our biodiversity. This can be possible only when we work together for the betterment of the environment and not become selfish beings. |
