KPs eye support of NPP, rebel BJP MLAs
LC elections
3/7/2013 1:00:16 AM
ET Plus Report
Jammu, March 6: The entire Kashmiri Pandit community is looking towards the seven rebel BJP MLAs, three NPP MLAs and one Independent from Jammu for tomorrow’s crucial voting for Legislative Council in which former general secretary of All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) SK Dudha is also a contestant as Independent candidate.
With four members of BJP already announcing their support to Dudha as a candidate of the minority KP community from Valley, the support from 11 other MLAs from Jammu is also crucial for him in getting elected to Upper House.
Sources said it now only depends on the decision of these political groups whether they will like to support Dudha and ensure his victory as a minority candidate or not in tomorrow’s elections.
Sources said though Dudha is confident of his victory with assurance from Opposition PDP and other Valley MLAs including CPI (M) and two independents to cast their vote in his favour the ball is in the court of breakaway group of BJP.
It may be recalled that various KP leaders across their party affiliations have met the Jammu MLAs and sought their support for the minority KP candidate in view of the community being totally neglected in the political field by the ruling alliance Congress as well as National Conference.
Maintaining that election of Dudha to Upper House was must so far as political empowerment of the community was concerned which is leading an exiled life for over last 23 years, Desh Rattan president All Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AMCCC) who led delegations to various opposition MLAs from Jammu appealed them to vote by their conscience.
He said Dudha is not a candidate of any political party but for ensuring his election to Upper House he needs support of all opposition parties including PDP and others. He said his organization has taken up the issue with all opposition MLAs of Jammu and it is hoped that they will cast their vote in favour of Dudha and show solidarity with hapless community as they have done in last 23 years of our exile.
The Pandits are victims of Government's apathy as it totally ignored them in last 23 years and even the Congress and NC coalition which claims to be the most secular minded parties did not bother to induct any person of the community in Council of Ministers.
Taking a serious view of the same Bharat Bushan of ASKPC said Pandits have pinned high hopes in opposition MLAs from Jammu and in the given political situation in the State we think they will show solidarity with the community and give a befitting reply to ruling alliance.
He took serious exception to NC leaders statement that by supporting Dudha NC-BJP nexus has been unmasked saying that it was due to wrong and revengeful policies of NC that Pandits have been thrown out from Valley as the Party sow the seeds of secessionism in the minds of Kashmiris right from 1947.
