| JK Health Services terminates 200 doctors | | | Avinash Azad Jammu, March 6: Already short of required manpower, the State Health Department has been compelled to terminate around 200 doctors, including senior specialists of various streams in the past few years, after repeated reminders to them to join services. Sources informed Early Time Plus that more than 200 doctors comprising of various streams including specialists have been terminated by the Jammu and Kashmir Health Services Department. "Most of the doctors were terminated by department after they remained absent from their services for many years without giving any reason to the department," sources said, adding that the concerned authorities after giving them several ultimatums ultimately terminated their services. Generally these doctors, they said, without informing the concerned department shifted to other States and started practice in private hospitals and sometimes in other countries. "Among these terminated doctors, majority are from Kashmir region, who have either shifted to some western or Arabian countries. Even some specialist doctors from State have also joined private hospitals in other States of country due to big difference in monthly salary," they said. "A new doctor who joined Health Services department in J&K gets around Rs. 22,000 per month but same doctors gets more than Rs. 50,000 in a private hospital in other States," said a doctor preferring anonymity. He said, "A senior doctor gets salary in Lakhs in private hospitals of other States so they have been moving to other States since last many years. Even the demand of doctors in Arabian countries is also in abundance so many doctors from Kashmir valley shift towards these countries in search of huge salary along with perks and other facilities." Blaming the faulty policies of State Government, he further said that the transfer of doctors from their native areas was also responsible for this practice of doctors. "Sometimes a doctor is shifted hundreds of miles from his native area. He prefers to serve in private hospitals of other States instead of serving in far flung or distant areas" he said. He further said that in the last few years the State Government has also started giving some more allowances to doctors but the private hospitals have enhanced the incentives much more than Government. "Generally the more salary, allowances, perks, facilities given by private hospitals, professional atmosphere and research work encouraged doctors of J&K to other States and countries," he said. |
