| Bring resolution on revocation of AFSPA: Tarigami | | Entire Army cannot be blamed for isolated incidents: Harsh Dev | | ET Plus Report Jammu, March 6: Participating in the discussion on the adjournment motion brought in the House to discuss the killing of Baramulla youth by Army, CPI(M) leader, MY Tarigami said that this House has never undermined the authority of the armed forces but if any one of them commits error, it was unacceptable and the error itself brings disrepute to the Army. While launching a direct attack on the Omar Abdullah for the first time since last many years, Tarigami said, "Had this Government punished the killers of 120 youth during 2010 summer unrest, it would have certainly created a deterrent". Reacting sharply to NPP leader Harshdev Singh's assertion that Army was playing a pivotal role in destroying the terrorism structure and maintaining internal law and order and as such cannot be blamed for the isolated incidents, Tarigami said though the Army has done a commendable job but it has also brought disrepute for its involvement in fake encounters and innocent killings. "In Pathribal, Army picked up innocent people, dubbed them as terrorist and killed them. The CBI which is the most credible investigating agency of the country established that it was a fake encounter described the killings of five persons as the cold blooded murder," said Tarigami. About AFSPA, Tarigami said this was not a holy book which cannot be amended or repealed. Daring the coalition Government to bring a resolution in the House, it they are really serious about the issues, urging revocation of AFSPA, the entire House will support them. "Bring a resolution in the House on revocation of AFSPA we will support you wholeheartedly and convey the message to the Government of India that we need not this law anymore," Tarigami told Government. He said when the GOI claims that the level of violence in the State has come down, why don't they withdraw AFSPA from the State. Tarigami said the response should be proportionate to the situation. Coming down heavily on the State Government for imposing curfew and snapping internet services, he said, "You cannot do this, pickup the courage and take action on the erring cops involved in the killing of Baramulla youth. Strongly opposing the argument that punishment will demoralize the security forces, he said if punishment demoralize the security forces, what about the people who are demoralized when they see killers moving scot-free. Earlier, taking part in the discussion on adjournment motion National Panthers Party leader, Harshdev Singh said the while dealing with the extraordinary situations, the Government needs extraordinary measures. He said the Army was doing a good job of tackling the internal terrorism and keeping vigil on borders and that entire Army cannot be blamed for isolated incidents. Harshdev said in 2005 earthquake Army came to the rescue of the people when the civil administration had almost collapsed. On raising AFSPA issue by the treasury benches, Singh said that it was their Government at centre which has applied this law to the State, they should take up this issue with the Central Government. He further said that Chief Minister being head of the Unified Command can summon Army and make them accountable for any action. |
