Maha Shivratri celebrations commences, Shiv Baraat on Mar 9

Jammu, Mar 6 : Amidst the chanting of mantras,and with the performance of havan and pujan, Maha Shivratri celebrations commenced here today in City of Temples and a symbolic Shiv Barat (religious procession) shall be organized on March 9. According to a press statement issued today, to mark the celebrations in connection with the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri, the Shiv Sevaks of Ranbireshwar Temple today assembled here and performed a special Puja and Havan to pray for the peace in the World in general and Jammu and Kashmir in particular. Later while talking to media persons the Shiv Sevaks informed that the celebrations are being organized in association with Dharmarth Trust, Jammu. They said as Maha Shivratri falls on March 10, a Shiv Baraat (jhankis) procession will be taken out in Jammu City on March 9.
"The symbolic Shiv Baraat will start from Ranbireshwar Temple here and after passing through different bazaars of the city will culminate at Ranbireshwar Temple, they added.
Speakers also informed that special troupes hailing from Mumbai, Bhopal, Muzaffar Nagar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Meerut, Hoshiarpur besides the scouts and guides will participate in it. They added the Shiv Baraat tableaus (Jhankis) would depict various characters of Bhagwan Shiv besides other entertaining colourful.
On March 10, Maha Shivratri function will be held in the Ranbireshwar temple and on March 16 Bhajan Sandya (Devotional Song Evening) programme will be held in which the participants, Bazar Associations, best jhanki and students will be honoured. This will be followed by Vishal Bhandara next day, they added.
