| No respite from cold in Ladakh, weather remains pleasant in Kashmir | | | ET Plus Report Srinagar, Mar 6 : There was still no respite from the cold in Ladakh region while weather remained pleasant in the Kashmir valley, where famous ski resort of Gulmarg was coldest with minus 2.5 degrees. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon weather will remain mainly dry over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. There would be no large change during subsequent two days, he said. Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh national highway, where the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has commenced snow clearance operation since yesterday from Drass, second coldest place in the world after Siberia, was coldest in the region with minus 11 degrees minimum temperature. At Leh it was minus 5 degrees, Met spokesman said. Because of clear and sunny weather the maximum temperature remained more than 8 degrees above normal yesterday and today in the summer capital, Srinagar where the minimum was also one degree above normal. Met spokesman said the sky will remain clear in Srinagar, where the maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 20 degree and three degree respectively. Though the minimum at Gulmarg was about three degree above normal, but bitting cold continued because of minus 2.5 degree temperature during night. However, in other areas in the valley, including famed health resort of Pahalgam, the minimum and maximum remained above normal. |
