| Jitendra questiones Congress silence over Afzal Guru issue | | | ET Plus Report
Jammu, Mar 6: "In the midst of Budget Session of J&K State Legislative Assembly, when the two Kashmir-centric political parties National Conference (NC) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) are engaged in a fierce war of competitive upmanship over Afzal Guru, why is the Congress party silent even though it is a ruling coalition partner in the government?" This question was raised by BJP Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh, Dr. Jitendra Singh accused the Congress party of being involved in a "conspiracy of silence" with NC on the Afzal Guru issue with the sole agenda of continuing in power. He said the Congress party's answerability becomes all the more serious because it is in power, both at the centre as well as the state, and it claims to be a nationalist secular party. Dr. Jitendra Singh said the onus is now on the Congress-led UPA government and the Union Home Minister to call the bluff of the NC leadership and the J&K Chief Minister who claim that they were not properly informed about the hanging of Afzal Guru. He also asked the Congress party leadership to explain whether it approves of the NC leaders including the Chief Minister referring to Afzal Guru as Guruji or Guru Saheb. Commenting upon budget, Dr. Jitender said that the budget appears a balance sheet like that of a Commission Agent having little to invest and get his share with hardly any accountability. "Despite jugglery of figures and high claims, it is evident that the dependence at the center is galloping. Over 85 per cent state expenses are to be met with the grants and assistance from the centre" he said.
