| Farmers’ demand weather based insurance for crops | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 6: Several famer organizations of Jammu province gathered at Press club to express serious concern about the agriculture related developments in state. According to press release, President Basmati Growers Association Ch. Dev Raj said that this year basmati rice growing proved a most lucrative crop for the farmers and now it was the responsibility of government to cover same under Basmati mission module like saffron mission. “At least quality seeds, plant protection chemicals, tractor operating machines and mini rice mills should be made available to farmers on 75% subsidy with weather based insurance under Rastriya Krishi vikas yojna and celebrate this year is a year of basmati Development” he said. President J&K Kissan Council Tajinder Singh said that the recent hailstorm and sudden rise in temperature proved detrimental for present Rabi season as well as coming Kharief season seedling of vegetables, flowers and standing vegetable crops are also 80% damaged in Jammu district. “The fact is that such type of naturally climates can be compensated by adopting the method of weather based agriculture insurance just like the states of Haryana, Punjab and Gujarat but our govt is still in vain” he said. Ch Krishan lal, Gurvinder Singh Babil, Lamerdar Kuldeep Raj Sharma, Joginder Lal, and others also spoke on the occasion.
