Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 6: Women Studies Centre of GCW, Gandhi Nagar celebrated the International Women’s Day by holding a symposium on “Role of Women in the 21stCentury”. According to press release, Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College was the special guest where as Dr. Kavita Suri, Associate Professor, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu was the Resource Person. Dr. Anjali Bhat, Convenor, Women Studies Centre welcomed the guests, staff members and participants and shared her views on the “emerging” and the “new” roles of women in the 21st Century. Delivering the guest lecture on "Role of women in 21st centruey: Issues and concerns", Dr. Kavita Suri throw light on the historical and present status of women in todays society. She encouraged all the girl students to get sensitized and come forward for their social, legal and political rights. Dr. Kiran Bakshi also made a clarion call to all the girl students that they should get equipped with new strength to face the challenges which they will be witneesing at their working palce, homes, and eve teasing in the streets. They should be made aware of their new roles as entrepreneurs, astronauts, bankers and CEOs. Alina, Numana, Nirupama, Saranjeet, Sonal Jain, Poonam, Sana and Akriti Mahajan also deliberated upon the image of new women in the present society. Girl students of the college also enacted a skit “Challenges faced by women in society” focusing upon child abuse, discrimination of sex, eve teasing and social cause like dowry and child marriage.
