| Forest employees nexus with smugglers | | DFO orders transfers | | et plus report Srinagar, Mar 6 : The Range Officer Handwara recovered 88 sqft timber in a raid. The concerned DFO has confirmed the raid and recovery of timber. He has effected transfer of all the employees found guilty of having a truck with the smugglers. According to reports, Range Officer, Muhammad Ramzan received specific information about storage of large quantities of illicit timber at a place in Handwara. He conducted a raid and recovered around 88sft of green gold. DFO Handwara Tawheed Ahmed said that all the forest employees involved in smuggling have been transferred. “How can we save our forests when our own employees are involved in the illegal activities and are supporting the forest smugglers? I was surprised when I came to know about this incident. We have initiated an enquiry and so far I have ordered the transfer of dozens of Forest employees,” Tawheed said adding that transfer is not the solution but proper action will be taken against such employees involved in such illegal activity. He further said that whatever loss the Forest Department has incurred by the act of such employees will be compensated by deducting a fixed amount from the salaries of these employees. |
