MoS Home’s statement causes furore
Threat to KPs living in valley
3/7/2013 1:19:09 AM
et plus report

new delhi, Mar 6: The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs mischievously stated that Kashmiri Pandits have been threatened to leave Valley within a week. However,he contradicted himself by referring an incident in 2012, which was investigated by police in Budgam and found absolutely baseless and false.
The timing of communalizing the situation in Kashmir is significant when entire valley is under curfew and protests continue against thekilling of a youngster in Baramulla.
According to reports the government told the Rajya Sabha that Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir have received a letter threatening them to leave the valley within a week but there was no proof that the letter originated from militant organizations.
Minister of State for Home R P N Singh replied with a "yes" to aquestion in Rajya Sabha on whether terrorists have issued a threat to Kashmiri Pandits to leave Kashmir.
"As per report received from the state government of Jammu andKashmir, a threatening letter/poster to leave Kashmir within a weekwas received through post by Secretary, Pandit Colony Sheikhpora, Budgam.
The post, however, did not have any evidence or proof of its
origin from any of the militant organizations.
Interestingly, the MOS referred to an incident that occurred incentral district Budgam a year back.
The J&K Police investigated into the matter at that time and found that the letter, sent throughordinary post, was nothing but a mischief.
The Pandits living in the Colony also dismissed that they have ever been threatened.
“This is a deliberate attempt to vitiate atmosphere in Kashmir. We areliving peacefully and there is no threat at all”, said a Panditresident of Valley. “The MOS should apologize and issue clarification onthe issue”, he said.
There are approximately 4,000 Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley. A senior Hurriyat leader said adding that the intention of the central government is reflected in the statement. “They want to set Kashmir on communal fire at a time when Kashmir is protesting hanging of Afzal Guru and killing of several youngsters during past one month” He said.
