| Sakina's message on Women's' Day | | ‘Choose a better poison to kill us’ | | ET Plus Report Jammu, Mar 8: The Minister of Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, in her message on International Women’s day said that the State Government was committed to women empowerment. She also said what politicians say on such occasions. While she expected the gullible women across the State to appreciate her `epoch' making message, women in Srinagar have urged the Government to choose a better poison to kill them. Itoo, like her colleagues in the Government perhaps do not know that while women across the globe were making preparations to celebrate Women’s Day in grand style, an elderly lady was suffocated by State's Janbaaz Sipahi at Safa Kadal by using pepper gas. "Even Hitler did not use pepper gas in his concentration camps", a wailing relative was heard saying in the area. "We do not expect anything from this Government. But we are entitled to a better poison. Please be humane while killing us", she shouted when a group of newsmen somehow managed to visit the besieged area. Pertinent to mention the use of pepper gas has been banned in rest of the world. But then it cannot be used on human beings. When will the Government start accepting the people of Jammu Kashmir as human beings? Itoo has to bear in mind that women cannot be empowered achieved by issuing messages on the Women’s Day. You have to recognize them as human beings first. The pepper gas, it has been noticed affects women and children adversely. Sakina said the State Government is committed in taking all the measures required for creating conducive atmosphere in which women can enjoy a dignified, progressive and safe life. Why should women believe her? |
