| Omar lowers dignity of Chair | | | ET Plus Report Jammu, Mar 8: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has lowered the dignity of the State and the Assembly on two accounts. Omar Abdullah first made a statement that he is helpless as all things are not under his control. And, secondly, when he said ," I am not mad". Chief Minister made these remarks, while speaking on the killing of a youth in firing in Kashmir. Omar showed his weakness and sent wrong signals across the State. This message can also be twisted not only by his opponents but also by separatists. It has in this sense lowered the credibility of elected representatives of the State as people might start questioning their legitimacy in the backdrop of the statement given by Omar Abdullah. This has also conveyed that Omar wants to remain glued to the chair come what may. It has given credibility to the allegations of the PDP that Omar is only interested in power and is trying to befool Delhi in the name of insecurities in the State so as to cling to the chair. "Being a CM doesn't mean you stay in farm house and move around in a car worth Rs 2 crores…. His father (Dr Farooq ) tells Delhi that only his son is capable of handling the things," Mehbooba Mufti had said in the Assembly just before Omar made this statement. Secondly by making a seemingly passionate speech, on his demand for revocation of AFSPA, Omar had said : "Mein pagal nahin hoon jab mein es Act ko kuch areas se hatane ke baat kehta hoon." Remarks like these have lowered the chair of the CM. Being head of the State, it's expected of him to maintain his dignity and also of the chair as his every word counts. The people of the State do look up to him- for the reason that State has enormous power- and when he says that he is not 'mad' then what can be expected from others. |
