'Gang rape' accused held, manhunt on to nab other

rajouri, Mar 8: On International Women’s Day when various government and non-governmental organizations were celebrating the occasion, in a bizarre case a 'gang rape' case was registered by Thannamandi Police of Rajouri District following complaint from the minor victim (14) of village Saj falling under the jurisdiction of said police station. Police has arrested one accused while manhunt is on to nab the absconding accused.
According to police sources, the complainant told the police that rape was committed upon a minor girl on March 6 in a house at Jawahar Nagar of Rajouri city and the matter came to light when the girl consumed kerosene oil today at home and was brought to District Hospital Rajouri today evening.
A senior police officer, however, on condition of anonymity said that Kulsoom (name changed) daughter of Nabia (name changed) came to Rajouri to collect some money from her close relative on Wednesday.
"One Sher Baz son of Mohd Hussain a student of 12th class of the same village was accompanying her. On reaching at Gujjar Mandi, he took her to Jawahar Nagar on a promise to help her, police said while referring to the complaint registered by the victim. "At Jawahar Nagar Sher Baz was joined by his friend, whose name was not disclosed by the police and both committed crime, complainant said. However, on Thursday suspects left her at Gujjarmandi Chowk allegedly threatening her of dire consequences if she will reveal the incident to anybody, it added.
The complainant after reaching at her house did not inform the parents about the incident and consumed kerosene oil and brought to District Hospital Rajouri under sub conscious condition.
Relatives and family member narrated their plight to senior police officers and ministers who were on their official visit to District Hospital (DH) Rajouri to inquire the well being of injured after tragic road accident.
Taking cognizance the concerned officials after the formal recording of statement of the victim and getting her medical examination registered a case u/s 376/342 (wrongful confinement) RPC against above mentioned accused," said DySP HQ, Sanjay Sharma.
He further said that Sher Baz, also arrested and being interrogated to identify his friend. Police party is on job to arrest the second accused.
