JAMMU, Mar 8: Semifinals position has been cleared with the entry of title contenders, J&K Forest XI in the last four stages of the ongoing 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College ground, here today. Other three teams making it to the semifinals are Sher-e-Punjab, Power Development Corporation (PDC)-B and Young Rovers. Now, in the semifinals, scheduled for tomorrow, PDC-B shall meet Sher-e-Punjab at 2 pm, while Young Rovers shall be playing against J&K Forests XI at 4 pm. Earlier, in today's fourth quarterfinal match, the formidable side of J&K Forest blanked the local club of NGR 7-0. The score would have been much higher had Forest forward line not missed the chances came their way, especially in the second half. Leading by just one goal in the first half, Forest XI dominated the field throughout after the breather. The swift side of Forest XI kept the ball moving despite their sure win. Most of the six goals came in the second half of the play. Toufeeq struck thrice netting the ball in 60th, 70th and 74th minute of the match while Aashiq (40th), Shahid (62nd and Rizwan (67th) added one goal each in the team's tally of seven. The star striker from Forest XI, Toufeeq was shown a yellow card in the 25th minute along with Aman of NGR for foul play. Today's quarterfinal was officiated by Moon Stephen, Sohan Lal, Vijay Kumar and Gagan Kumar. Prominent among those who witnessed today's match were MS Bawa, Zameel Thakur, Fiaz Ahmad, Mohan Lal, Romesh Kumar and Yousuf Don. This tournament is being organised by All J&K Indira Gandhi People's Association president, Narinder Gupta. FIXTURE: Semifinals: Sher-e-Punjab shall meet PDC-B at 2 pm while Young Rovers shall face J&K Forest at 4 pm tomorrow. |
