| Govt working on a well-knit dev programme for rural areas: Sham | | | AKHNOOR: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, has said that Government is endeavouring all efforts to address the problems of the people of rural and far-flung areas on priority. “During past over four years a massive development has taken place almost in all vital sectors which has been well acknowledged by the people at the grass root level” the Minister maintained. Addressing a largely attended public meeting here today, the Minister said that Government has formulated a well-knit development programme for the rural and far-flung areas after identification of area specific requirements in consultation with the representatives of the PRIs. The main focus was to upgrade the education and road connectivity which are key sectors to change the socio-economic profile of people, said the Minister. Referring to unemployment, the Minister said that two special police recruitment drives were organized in Akhnoor wherein a large number of deserving youth were recruited on the spot. He said efforts will be made to organize another special recruitment rally to absorb local youth in the force. He urged the Sarpanchs/Panchs to motivate youth to avail benefits of several employment programmes launched by the Government. He said Government jobs are not possible for all and youth must opt for self-employment ventures wherein adequate incentives in the form of subsidy are available for them. He said banks have special instructions to sanction hustle free loans for the youth to establish their viable units for the livelihood, he maintained. He also urged the members of PRIs to form self-help groups of women and engage maximum women of rural areas for establishing their income generated units. He also urged the Panches to motivate youth to register themselves with the employment counselling centres to avail the benefits of incentives announced by the Government. On the issue of elections to the Urban Local Bodies, the Minister said that Government has decided to hold the said elections most probably by coming June. He asked the people to gear up for elections and elects the representatives of credibility. He said the Government is also committed to restore complete autonomy to the PRIs after necessary amendment in the State’s Panchayat Act, he added. On the occasion, the Minister distributed old age and disabled pension cheques amounting Rs. 12 lakh among the 450 beneficiaries of Akhnoor block. He also distributed Rs. 6.47 lakh incentives among 23 beneficiaries under Horticulture Technology Mission. He also gave away 11 cheques worth Rs. 2.13 lakh as agriculture incentives to the deserving farmers. The Minister also distributed 13 units of Solar Lights among the ST beneficiaries provided by the Social Welfare Department on the occasion. A large number of people drawn from different parts of Akhnoor called on the Minister and apprised him of their difficulties. He issued on-the-spot instructions to the concerned officers to address these problems on priority. Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Superintending Engineer (Hydraulic), Jammu, SDM, Akhnoor, Mr. N.S.Jamwal, Mr. Ram Saran Bhagat, Mr. Baldev Raj Sharma, Th. Kamal Singh and sectoral officers of various departments. |
