| 2.89 lakh saplings of different species planted in Pulwama-Shopian Forest division | | | SRINAGAR: As many as 2.89 lakh trees of different species have been planted by the Forest division in the district Pulwama and Shopian during previous year. The information was given out in a meeting of Forest Officers concerned by the Divisional Forest Officer, Shopian to review the performance of the department here today. The meeting was informed that 279 hectares of forest land have been fenced during the last year to curb the encroachments on the forest land in the twin districts. The Divisional Forest Officer, Shopian exhorted upon the forest officers to conduct vigorous plantation drives on denuded forests besides take steps for the conservation of forests on priority. He also emphasized for regular checks to curb deforestation and asked people residing near forests to cooperate with the department for the conservation of green gold of the Valley. |
