| Suicidal tendency' persist in valley, two more make abortive life bid | | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Apr 8: Besides other social evils, 'suicidal tendencies' continues to persist in the valley and in an alarming rate in the past years and reports often are pouring people from different age groups committing suicide across the Kashmir valley which once was known as 'paradise on earth' for not only its scenic beauty and but for healthy ambiance too. Two persons including a minor barely in his 13s allegedly committed suicide today, reports said. Circumstances has virtually changed in the valley and none knows what is ailing this beautiful valley where to one's surprise even a minor too thinks of to make a life bid. According to the police sources one minor barely 13 year old boy identified as Mudasir Ahmad Shah s/o Mushtaq Ahmad Shah r/o Chander-Seer, Baramulla today committed suicide by hanging himself at his home this morning. "Mudasir, a reading in ninth standard committed suicide after his parents tried to make him aware of ill effects of absenteeism during student's life and within minutes after this conversation he went in to his room and locked self, sources said. "Fearing some omen, the family members broke open the door and found him hanging, the family members evacuated him immediately to Sub District Hospital (SDH), Kreeri but the unconscious minor succumbed on the way to the hospital, sources said. Yet in another incident, a young lady in her thirties (name withheld) resident of Trehgam of District Kupwara, doused herself with kerosene oil and then set herself ablaze. Though she was shifted to Sub District Hospital, Kupwara where she is undergoing medicare for her severe burn injuries. Meanwhile a woman of Koker-gund, Yaripora of Kulgam district allegedly had consumed some poisonous substance at her home on Sunday. Her family members rushed her to SKIMS, Soura in an unconscious state where doctors declared her dead. The things don't stop here if recalled just two days ago, a fifteen year old girl allegedly also made an abortive bid of life in Baramulla district by hanging herself. The details available with ETP related to suicide incidents reveal that suicide rate is increasing in the valley and if one roughly calculates the data across the valley for last two weeks atleast nine persons committed suicides at many places across the valley. But shockingly the statistical details reveal that people of different age groups including teen agers are victim of this increasing 'suicidal' trend in the valley and in recent cases of nine, four suicides have been reported from teen age group. Besides teen agers, highly educated people, people working in Government sectors including teachers are also reportedly committing suicides. According to the police officials who on anonymity reveal that it becomes particularly difficult for them to investigate the suicide cases in Kashmir because most of the times relatives of the victim do not share the actual inputs related with the suicide because of the social stigma which in turn results that in most of the cases actual reason of suicide of a person remains in secrecy for others to know. Here it needs to mention that there are reports in media section that soldiers/paramilitary personnel posted in Kashmir too are committing suicides and Border security forces (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and army troopers are the major victims of this increasing 'suicidal trend' reported from the valley. |
