JAMMU: A delegation of the Shaheed Major Rohit Sharma Memorial Society, Mandi, Poonch, called on Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan, here today. The 8-member delegation led by Mr. Akbar Ali Banday, General Secretary of the Society, briefed the Governor about the activities of the Society during the past year and those planned for the coming months. They thanked the Governor for taking keen interest in the activities of this organization and development of the State, particularly remote areas like Mandi. The demands presented by the delegation to the Governor on this occasion included establishment of an ITI at Mandi, augmenting accommodation and other facilities for the pilgrims of Buddha Amarnathji Shrine and provision of office for the Society in Jammu to give further boost to its activities. Mr. Usman Baba, a Member of the Shaheed Major Rohit Sharma Memorial Society, and local artist of Jammu, presented one of his paintings to the Governor. The delegation stated that the Society is planning to organize exhibitions of Mr. Baba’s work on the theme of “Peace and Harmony” at Srinagar in August this year, coinciding with the Independence Day, and in Jammu on the occasion of Republic Day 2014. The Governor assured the NGO that its initiatives aimed at spreading the message of peace and harmony would be supported. The Governor assured the delegation that the issues raised by them would be taken up with the concerned authorities. Mr. Navin K.
