Mir inspects On Farm Development works in border areas

JAMMU, June 4 : Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir today inspected the On Farm Development Works executed during 2012-13 in villages Gazipur Kulian, Badyal Qazian, Chohalla and Seer Balah under Ranbir Canal project by Command Area Development Department Jammu.
The Minister was accompanied by Director Command Area Development Jammu, Parvez Ahmed Malik, Chief Agriculture Officer CAD Jammu, Dr Rama Kant Sharma, Project Officer, S&WM CAD Jammu, V R Parihar and Assistant Soil Conservation Officers of CAD Jammu. The Minister interacted with the farmers of area and appreciated the quality of works done by the technical officers of the department. He appealed the farmers to maintain the field channels properly so as to increase the efficiency in usage of water thereby enhancing the production and productivity of the crops in the project areas. The farmers also appreciated the role of department in the construction of concrete channels which has reduced the seepage losses thereby providing the water at tail ends and also increasing the area under irrigation as well as the productivity of crops.
The Minister inspected 800 meter, 1056 meter and 1900 meter distributaries at Badyal Qazian, Seer-Balah and Gazipur Kulian respectively which provided direct irrigated water supply to about 200 farmers.
He asked the executing agencies to complete all ongoing works in stipulated time frame. He asked them to ensure complete participation of panchayat representatives while formulating and implementing development programmes in such border areas. At Badyal Qazian, the Minister inspected the local dairy farms and directed the concerned department to make comprehensive plan for establishment of bio gas plants in the area. He advised the local farmers to take maximum benefit from various schemes like vermin-compost scheme. He said that government provides huge subsidy to the farmers for purchase of agriculture equipments under different schemes. The Minister issued on spot instruction to the officers to take care of needs and demands of the farmers and redouble their efforts so that the targets are achieved well in time.
