SRINAGAR, June 4 : In order to provide potable drinking water to left over habitations in Kulgam area, the Government will take up nine new Water Supply Schemes (WSS) with an estimated cost of Rs. 26.09 crore during the current fiscal. Out of these, three schemes have been targeted to be completed at an allocation of Rs. 3.21 crore this year; which will cover six habitations with a population of 6179 souls. These schemes will be taken up under District sector. Under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) ‘’Coverage’’, four schemes with the coverage of seven habitations with a population of 9849 souls are also proposed to be taken up during the current fiscal in the Kulgam Constituency. These schemes are estimated to cost Rs. 11.67 crore. Under irrigation sector, 3 major/medium schemes have been taken up in the district with an estimated cost of Rs. 112.09 crore, for which an amount of Rs. 12 crore has been spent upto ending 3/2013. An outlay of Rs. 7.60 crore has been proposed for the current fiscal. Under Minor Irrigation programme, four schemes have been taken up in the district with an estimated cost of Rs. 11.90 crore, for which Rs. 54.50 crore have been proposed for the current year. This information was given at a review meeting of Kulgam Constituency, which was held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma. MLA Kulgam, Mr. M.Y. Tarigami, Chief Engineer, PHE, Mr. A.M. Lanker, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. Javed Jaffer, concerned Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers were also present in the meeting. Taking a complete review of all the on-going schemes in the Constituency, the Minister issued specific instructions to the engineers to speed up the pace and complete the projects with in a stipulated time frame. He said Government will ensure necessary funds for the completion of on-going schemes in a time bound manner. He assured the officers that Government will take all necessary steps to improve their working conditions for ensuring the better delivery system on ground. Mr. Tarigami demanded expeditious completion of all on-going PHE & Irrigation Schemes in his area. He urged the Minister for arranging special funds for launching new schemes in the uncovered areas to provide potable water to the people. |
