Sagar for implementing NRLM in a missionary mode
Rs. 755 cr being allocated to the State under the scheme

NEW DELHI, June 4: Minister for Rural Development, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar has underlined the need for implementing National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in a missionary mode so that more and more people get benefitted from the same. The Minister was speaking at Aajivika Divas which was celebrated by the Union Ministry of Rural Development here to commemorate the 2nd year of launching of NRLM throughout the country. It was attended by the UPA Chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi, and Union Minister for Rural Development, Mr. Jairam Ramesh besides Rural Development Ministers of all the states of the country.
The Minister appreciated the role of the Union Cabinet for approving special norms exclusively for J&K for “Umeed Project” as part of NRLM. He further thanked the UPA Chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi, the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh for announcing a special dispensation of allocating the funds on the pattern of 90:10 (Centre-State share) whereas in the rest of country it is being implemented on 75:25 pattern. He said that it would benefit the whole state especially, the women folk and would go a long way in ensuring their socio-economic upliftment.
The participants/Self-Help-Groups (SHGs) all over the country showcased their achievements in the event besides expert groups/technical experts/ social mobilization organizations shared their experience in providing livelihood opportunities to the women by organizing SHGs. It is pertinent to mention that a scheme is being launched in J&K state in a special mode by increasing the allocation from Rs. 110 crore to Rs. 755 crore with the allocation for the current year being provided to the tune of Rs. 30.38 crores. A special emphasis is to being about Two Thirds (2/3) of the families in the state under the ambit of the scheme with the target of 90,000 Women Self Help Groups (WSHG) over a period of 5-years. Further as an off shoot of NRLM ‘HIMAYAT’ Programme is under implementation in Jammu and Kashmir State where placement oriented skills are provided to the youth through reputed organizations and till date 7000 youth have been trained and 5000 youth placed within and outside the state.
