Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 29: A deputation of PoK Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947, 1965 and 1971 (Non Camp) under the Chairmanship of Capt Yudhvir Singh Chib today called on Pradesh Congress Committee president Saif-ud-Din Soz and apprised him about the problems being faced by the displaced DPs since 1947.
The deputation requested the State Congress President to use his influence to get the problems of DPs resolved / settled once for all by State and Central Governments.
Member of Parliament Madan Lal Sharma and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh were also present and supported the cause of displaced refugees and requested the State Congress President for early resolve of their problems.
President DPs Capt Yudhvir Singh apprised the State Congress president that a State Ministerial Committee had met the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. They promised to resolve the matter at the earliest but a period of 8 months have gone past, nothing has come out as yet, Singh said. The DPs are fast loosing their patience due to false promises being made by State and Central Governments, he added.
He further informed Prof Soz that the displaced DPs have passed a resolution to wait till August 15 and warned that if their demands are not fulfilled by this period, they will come out on streets and restore to road blocks and 'Rail Roko Abhiyan'.
Soz assured the deputation of DPs that Government is ready to resolve the matter in their favour and one time package will be announced by the end of August.
